Im from America, and im also a big fan of Japanese music. Im the kind of person that's really open I guess, and I love sharing my interests. I like bands from like Nightmare, D, Gackt, the Gazette, Dir En Grey, Do As Infinity to other bands like Maximum The Hormone, and Loudness. Ive gotten a few people into Dir En Grey, but I really love spreading what I like musically, and im open to listening to new things as well. Yet the problem is, a lot of the people around here, and my friends included. Seem to taboo a music that is done in a different language. While ive never seen a problem in a language barrier because to me good music is good music. The people around me seem to discount that this music is any good due to that they cant understand it. I dont force my music on people, but I have actually been made fun of quite a few times for listening to music from different languages. Though these same people will listen to music from bands like Rammstein. Is there anyway you'd recommend to transcend the language barrier? I recently played a Nightmare song to one of my friends its called Gianism Shichi, and they thought it was awesome. Then I let them listen to the song, and they seemed turned off just by the fact that it wasnt in English. This really frustrates me, and I believe it may just be a lost cause. You say its a lost cause, but it`s not a "cause". You are the lucky one with an open mind, and as a benefit, you get to enjoy some amazing stuff! If your friends want to follow your example, good for them, but musical taste is a very personal thing, and people have the right to their own taste, as limited and narrow as it may be.
