  QUESTION:  
 
hey marty i am a big fan and am wanting to learn japanese and have a question.ok so i know some basic words can count to 100 in japanese i know colors days of the week ect. and im starting to learn some hiragana. but i find it very hard remembering some of the characters. should i take a break from hiragana and learn more words or keep trying to get hiragana in my head.
 
     
  MARTY'S ANSWER:  
 
You are at the stage where 99.9% of people quit. If you are serious, then you must make hiragana your top priority, because without it, you can not read furigana and okurigana, which is absolutely necessary when learning kanji, which is the most important (and endless) pursuit in understanding Japanese. If you are just learning for fun, go ahead and learn new words. Either way, take it slow, one step at a time.
