Title : "Bittersweet" from ""Introduction" CD

  QUESTION:

Marty-One of my top 10 CD's is your "Introduction" album. My brother, Jerry, gave it to me and I began to play it more and become more astonished with the fresh style and the range of emotion it illicits. In my opinion, the ultimate track from that CD is "Bittersweet"..it is an incredible journey from soft sounds to rocking out the house. I've often wondered how you crafted this masterpiece of music that so well drips with the bittersweet emotion it is so aptly named after. What was your inspiration for this opus? Any insight is greatly appreciated. As a memorial, I played this song at Jerry's funeral in 2007. He was 37 and words failed me in my grief, yet this song communicated it for me better than I could myself. Thank you for composing a piece of art in "Bittersweet". It will forever be my song of grief expression in the loss of my brother.

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

I`m sorry to hear of your tragic loss, and I`m flattered that you hold my music in such a high regard. I don`t remember much about writing it particularly, however I do know that it is one of my favorites out of my own music. At that time I was fascinated with creating simple melodies that are uplifting yet sad at the same time. It`s actually quite a challenge to find that particular emotion...but I`m still fascinated with doing that, "Lovesorrow" ( from "Music For Speeding") also comes to mind. All my best wishes to you and your family.
