Title : Being in more that one band.

  QUESTION:

I just want to say that I am a long-time fan of yours, and you are one of the greatest guitarists I have heard. I really need your advice on something-I am in a few bands and i knew some time or another, a scheduling conflict would arise. One of the bands booked a gig two months in advance and we discussed it and booked it. The studio time is coincidentally for the same day as that gig. Another band I am in wanted to record. Someone in that band booked studio time without telling us the date and now he is acting like it is my fault because I have a prior commitment. He keeps telling me that since I was in his band first, i should break the other commitment for the other gig. What would you do? God bless, Thanks in advance for your time, John

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

If you told the band that`s going in the studio in advance that you have a gig on that date, then it`s their fault they ignored your plans. Eventually you may have to shit or get off the pot (sorry for tthe graphic expression) and choose the band that is best for you and give your 100% to it. However, if you are a growing musician, it is really good to play with as many musicians as possible, so you may want to do the gig, and do studio work that night after the gig, or do your parts another day, possibly at your expense which would show your good character. Good luck.
