  QUESTION:

Hello Marty, What a beautiful song Thais. Its structure reminds me Black Stallion Jam that you did with Jason. It does even sound like Jason on electric guitar part of the song, especially arpeggios. I figured that we don't have it in 'Story Behind the Songs' section of this site(even though it's a bonus track on 'Music For Speeding' album), and I don't seem to be able to find any info regarding Thais on the web. Could you please share your thoughts on Thais like you did for other songs of yours in 'Story Behind the Songs' section of your site? P.S.: LOUDSPEAKER RULES!!! And thanks for autographed photo with the instructional DVD - it looks like I was one of the first who ordered it back then, and it's the only real autographed thing I got so far!

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

Glad you like it! I think Oksana Baiul was skating to Thais at the time, and when I heard it I thought it was an amazing piece of music. I just had a home studio built, so I was all excited to try to make Thais one of my first projects as an engineer. I`m really happy with the way it turned out. It gave me the confidence to decide to engineer the whole album, Music For Speeding. That said, good engineering is insane work and from then on I vowed to leave it to the pros!
