  QUESTION:

Hey Marty My grades are really really bumming me out (cuz im liking getting C's). I feel as though music is so much more important and its all I think of (and it distracts from school). Even though the chances of being a great guitar player and "making it" are astronomical, I want to put 110% of my every efforts to go forth on my goal for making excellent music. Now to get to my actual question; what were your grades like in highschool and what would you suggest I do about my lame grades concerning my goals in music?

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

Work hard at school! What you are learning in school is not the actual stuff you are being taught, but you are learning HOW TO LEARN. This ability will be extremely valuable as you learn to become a better musician. Plus-what good would it be to be a great musician if you are an uneducated person who will be taken advantage of constantly in the music business? School is a gift of a wealth of valuable things if you wish to accept them, do your best! My grades were good but not spectacular by any means. B`s and C`s, maybe a few A`s.
