  QUESTION:

Hi Marty, I'm Japanese who loves hard rock and heavy metal and lives in the U.S.. I've been here since last year, and I feel every city has radio station of rock ( also hard rock and heavy metal). Also, these radio stations provide many concerts and support many musicians. Why don't we have this kind of radio station in Japan? How do you think? I know...we have not so many listeners in Japan. When I lived in Japan, I seldom listened to the radio, though. I think your appearances in Japanese TV programs or something have been making so many Japanese rock...metal fans! I'm sure that I'll miss America's radio when I back to Japan. I think...if we have this kind of radio station, many of Japanese rock fans listen to this for sure. Don't you think so?

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

Good point! There are no "rock stations" in Japan, but there are a few programs that play rock or metal for a few hours at a time. There is not enough of an audience in Japan for western rock and metal to warrant more than that. But there is a great variety of styles of music on the radio in Japan.
