Title : Guitar for people with a "handicap"

  QUESTION:

Hi Marty, First I want to say thank you for inspirering me as a guitarist and as a person together with Jason Becker. I was wondering, how do you feel by people with a handicap who wanting to play guitar styles like shred, melodic rock, prog and that kinda stuff. I'm talking about handicaps like autism and spasm etc. I play guitar for some time now. According to society i'm "autistic" but I have the feeling i'm just high sensitive. I making progress everyday on the guitar by practice but a good friend of my who has "spasm" has difficulty to "get better" on the guitar. Do you think that a "handicap" can be an obstacle to get better on the guitar or has it more to do with something else? Peace out, Jochem

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

I have tons of respect for people with handicaps. Of course every single case is different, but if you enjoy playing music, and continue doing it, eventually at some pace you will get better at it. Some people faster than others but that applies to non handicapped people as well. The key to improving is not constantly `trying to get better`, but enjoying what you do, doing it ALL THE TIME, and eventually, almost unbeknownst to you, you will have become somewhat more proficient than when you started. Good luck.
