Title : Why Do You Dislike Sweep Picking?

  QUESTION:

In one of the questions you answered, you advocated guitar players to ditch sweep picking because it was a technique that was hard to master yet had no payoffs. I was just wondering why you dislike sweep picking so much? Some of the most musical moments in Cacophony songs were sweep picked like the Go Off arpeggios, etc. (and lets not forget Steve Vai songs or the infamous Serrana Arpeggios) Also sweep picking can be heard very prominently in some jazz songs, where it can really help brighten the relationships between the chord and the chord tones. I was just very interested by this statement because I've found many great, musical moments in different genres of music that show the advantages of being able to sweep pick well. Thanks!

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

BY ALL MEANS if you like the sound of something, learn it and DO IT! It is your right to disregard anything ANYONE, especially me, says in your path to becoming a unique musician! My opinion is just that, just one guy`s opinion!
