Title : Playing with cold hands

  QUESTION:

Hi Marty, Do you also find it difficult to play guitar when you are freezing and your hands are cold? I can not play at all when I am freezing and my hands feel cold. For example today: the weather was very cold and my window in my room was open the whole day and as I was sitting at the computer right next to the window, I decided to play guitar for abit but then I noticed my hands were ice cold and I immediately dismissed the thought and decided to do something else. Even when I force myself to play guitar with cold hands, I can barely move my fingers. Freezing hands slow me down. You as well? -Humphrey

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

It should not matter that much once you have played gtr for several years, because after 5 years or so, a player should be playing with his mind and heart and not fingers. It takes surprisingly little strength to hold the strings down once your brain realizes the exact amount of pressure to use to hold down the strings. One thing when playing in severe cold, your hands get actually numb, so you should be careful that you don`t bend or push too hard without knowing it causing you to play sharp...good luck!
