  Title : why bother.

  QUESTION:

Man you are the greatest guitarist. I honestly can't see myself ever as good as you, I find you as my #1 inspiration and I just really don't have the motivation to keep playing guitar and trying to be a good guitarist. Of course im not going to be a clone of you or anything and I know i should learn my own ways of the guitar, but I just don't have that motivation right now to keep practicing because there are so many good guitarists out there (you being the best), so why bother? Can you help? yours truly, #1 Friedman Fan.

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

Thanks for your compliments. Why bother is right! I can`t tell you "why to bother" playing music, and you are right, there are millions of great musos out there, and there always have been. Then again why bother eating? Breathing? The only reason to "bother" doing anything is because you want to do it, and you will never get the motivation to do anything as time consuming as playing music from anyone but yourself. Music is a masochistic hobby that when done well can truly consume your life. You sound like you may be better off just enjoying listening to music and concentrating your efforts and talents in other ways that come more natural to you.
