Title : You made it to Japan!

  QUESTION:

After seeing VH1's Behind the Music on Megadeth, and recently purchasing Arsenal of Megadeth and seeing clips of you in geisha tees and other paraphrenalia, I noted your love for Japan. I, too, fell in love with Japan's rock scene that is growing a heart America has lost for quality rock and pop music. Now, I listen almost solely to J-rock, J-pop, including visual kei and indie bands. I became a Christian not too long ago, and in that, I've come to realize over three years that my six-year love for Japan has convinced my own mother of my heart to be a Japanese missionary. I wanted to tell you that I was excited to see you in Nanase Aikawa's video for "Everybody Goes" and I wanted some possible words of encouragement about making it to Japan. I'm studying journalism in University, and my talents can be well used in Japan becoming more Eigo every day, so this isn't just silly otaku pipe dreams. I want to make my dreams to be in Japan a reality just like you have. Also, are you aiding Aikawa-sempai in translating her songs into English?

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

I did the translation and vocal production for "Everybody Goes", glad you like it! As for Japan becoming more Eigo (English) every day, don`t count on it. I would say that about 99% of what I have achieved over here was and is facilitated by my fluent Japanese. My advice is to learn the language at least to some extent. The Japanese are very gracious to visitors who don`t speak the language, but in reality how much work could you get in the US if you can`t speak English? It`s the same here in Japan! Best of luck.
