  Title : Talking with musicians

  QUESTION:

Hi Marty, here is my question:
I'm a mastering engineer (a rookie one) and I'm starting my own studio but I've been having a lot of problems explaining the technical things to musicians. It comes to be necessary when they want their record to sound like one of yours when they recorded it in 2 days at a home studio. I've seen that you are involved in the production and post-production on your records; how, if so, does an engineer explain or did explain something technical to you or a nearby musician?
Thanx a lot!

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

I never wanted to know the tech talk. It is the engineer`s job to just `make it happen`, no explanation neccesary. When the budget doesn`t allow for the ultimate sound the only explanation there can be is "You get what you pay for"...
