  Title : Ignorance or Knowledge?

  QUESTION:

Hello Marty.

speaking of Music Theory, I'd like to know how much interested have you been in it, and how further you've explored, from a scholastic point of view.

I have noticed that the more scholastic and strictly musicians approach the composition and craftsmith of music pieces, the less creative and visionary are the results.

Do you think that ignorance, in Music theory, can actually work out to positively bring something fresh and innovative out?

John Lee Hooker or Walter Piston? :)

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

Knowledge sounds better than ignorance, right? I say learn as much as possible, but always remember, it`s much more important to be able to PLAY something rather than EXPLAIN something. If I spent the time it would take learning how explain everything that I play, I wouldn`t be able to play much of it...
