  QUESTION:

Hi Marty - Im getting more and more inetrested in writing good melodies: its so interesting to see how a certain group of notes, just by the way they work together, can evoke a feeling or a sense of something... since you have so many cool melodies in your songs, i was wondering if you had some sort of recipe for writing them - i mean, do you wrie the chord changes first and then add the melody on top or do you write them both simultaneously?

Do you "write" in your head without any instrument and then translate it to tape or paper or is it more a noodling around process which you do until you get the final output?

I was also wondering - have you ever listened and/or been inspired by video game music (nobuo uematsu - final fantasy, etc.) - one could say that there are similarities in your music...which I happen to like, heheh!

Thanks so much,
Dan

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

I don`t have any set way of writing music, it happens in every way you mention and more. The best way to get (and understand) the answers is to learn some easy pieces of my music completely, chord changes and melodies, then you will get the hands-on info that will do you the most good.
