Hey Marty! Greatest guitarist ever!
I was wondering
about your style of playing.. I know you use your ears and come up with your music based off your experiances and melodies brought
out by your diverse cultural backgrounds.. and I know you don't use "technical scales" to label your music.. But from a music
theory standpoint, What are the most common "scale" that comes out in your playing? I would love to find the "Marty scales" in like
say a website, even though I know you discourage the learning of scales note for note, It would really help me and encourage me to
just get the gist of what note choices come up most frequently in your playing, and would help me when I improvise jam to your
songs (which I do all the time, looping your chord progressions ^^)
So is there a typical scale that could be coined as
the "Marty Friedman Scale".. I'm sure from it would help people just to take a listen to the scale and experiment with its notes,
Thanks |

Even if there were such a `scale` what would you do if you knew that `scale`? The secret is not in finding scales, the
secret lies in developing the ability to play many many phrases, and to even create phrases you have never played before as you
play. To do that, you must ignore the confines of scales and learn as many phrases as possible. Then alter them any way you like to
make them your own. Good luck! |
