Hey, i'm from Hawaii and well, i've been jamming with friends and bands for
quite awhile now, and i'm working on forming a totally original band, but the problem is this.
1. No one seems to be as
motivated as me
2. I have a GREAT Drummer, and a bassist who is a pretty talented overall musician, but I can't find a
freakin singer! I mean, I can sing a little but I would rather be like running around and playing guitar instead of being stuck at
a mic stand.
Where did you go to look for band members back when you were in Hawaii? I've yet to meet the kind of
singer i'm looking for. Everyone seems to be into that cookie monster stuff now. I want a guy that can do like the Freddy Mercury
stuff, and the David Lee Roth stuff, with stage presence and all.
3. Would people even accept what we do?
I
mean, I know I want to do this, and i'll do this even if no one really likes it but like, the music scene in hawaii at the moment
is STAAAALE.
All the rock people are either into Punk Emo Or Death Metal. Anything else is pretty much frowned
upon.
For example, one time I jammed with this death metal band, and all they did was play blast beats, and scream while
having me play "heavy sounding riffs" When I would go into something bluesy, or play something Van Haleny, they would be like this
shit sucks!
However, when I play with my own band, people seem to like us and even tell us that we're awesome when we
come out of the rehearsal space.
4. School
Would it even be worth going to college for me? (I'm 19 at the
moment)
I couldn't ever imagine myself doing anything else then playing music. I would rather be playing in bands and working
a minimum wage job then to be stuck at some desk job for the rest of my life, and I already have a pretty extensive music education
starting from when I was 3 years old under a world reknowned violin instructor. |

You seem to be a well thought out kind of guy.
You must remember, you are in HAWAII!! Nowheresville, my friend. A lovely place for a vacation, but a meaningless speck of dust in
the ocean as far as being relevant to the music world.(except for the world of Hawaiian music.) If you want to be serious, get out
of Hawaii. There is no reason to get motivated there. Take it from me. I was so motivated, it was impossible to find anyone to play
with. Now I go back for vacation and I LOVE it. Motivation goes a long way in the real world so go there! Good luck. |
