  Title : More Successful

  QUESTION:

I was wondering... since you're a terrific guitar player (no doubts there) and that you have worked hard to develop such high standard of playing, how do you feel about awful players like Johnny Ramone, Steve Jones and Kurt Cobain being more successful than your brilliant and hard-to-do (write/perform) kind of music?
Thanks for your attention, carry on and please, play some instrumental versions of Megadeth songs on your gigs. I bet the crowd will go even crazier.

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

There's no accounting for taste! If it weren't for Johnny Ramone, one of my all time faves, I probably would have never even picked up the guitar. "high standard of playing" means very little. Everyone has their own kind of standard. Kurt (and Steve) made simple music that touched many millions of people. I believe that is way harder to do than playing 16th notes at 200 bpm.
I guarantee that with practice anyone can do the latter, but the former is a much, much more elusive task...
