  QUESTION:

Hi Marty,

Aikawa Nanase's album - Seven.

This album only features 1 track recorded with u ( 8th track). Why is it she doesn't use u for all the lead & rhythm guitar part since u will be touring with her ? Does that mean u hv to learn all the parts played by other artist recorded with her ? If so , how do u learn them , they pass u the score or do u hv to learn by ears ? Tks for shedding some light on how the industry works.

Tks fr the time to even bother to read yr fan's mail Marty. Bought yr latest DVD & find it extremely beneficial, love it.

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

The reason I'm only on one song on "Seven" is because Aikawa Nanase is for the most part a singles artist, and songs are recorded separately and with separate arrangers and writers. They are the ones that choose the musicians to fit their vision of the song.
Naturally because of my image as a 'heavy rock guitarist', I was chosen for the 'heaviest' track on the album. I have since then recorded more music with her and even done some songwriting so keep listening!
As far as learning them, I receive stacks of sheet music but to be honest, I rarely look at that and I learn by ear.
PS I can be heard playing all of her songs on the live dvd.
