  Title : first clinic experience?

  QUESTION:

marty, do u remember ur first clinic experience, could u share that to us, what did u play? were u excited? did u mess up?

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

I don't believe I messed up much, but it was at a music academy in Hawaii when I was about 17 or 18. All the kids wanted to learn about was heavy metal, and I basically explained some stuff about the way I play. Then a Jazz Professor there was standing in the back of the room and criticizing everything I did, telling me I didn't know anything about music, didn't know who John Coltrane and Charlie Christian was (that was true) and that I was teaching the people there everything wrong. Since that, I made sure that I would never become a bitter know-it-all musician. So I guess I have to thank the guy for that...
