  QUESTION:

hey Marty!
First, I just wanted to say that it's great you take time to answer questions from your fans.

I read somewhere that you taught guitar at MIT {Musicians Institute of Tech.} in Hollywood before your break with Megadeth. Is this true? Second, can you read music? Do you think its necessary to have good reading skills. I'm trying to get a job teaching, but I have to have good reading skills to get the positon. I'm learning, but I'm still not finding it relevant. What's your opinion on this topic? Thanks Marty.

P.S. your playing in the middle section of "Forbidden City" is awesome.

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

If you plan to be a teacher, reading music is not only relevant, it should be completely taken for granted.
If you plan to be a player, you can certainly get away without reading music, especially in rock. But what happens if you get a shot at a major gig and the musical director hands you a stack of sheet music and says learn it by next week?
