  QUESTION:

I was wondering if you did ever write a piece for orchestra would it be a traditional classical composition where every instrument gets to shine or would it be like malmsteen and just focus on one instrument. Nothing against malmsteen cos I think he is a great guitarist but his album with the orchestra was just him basically showing off how good he is while the other musicians were there just to back him up. Im sure you could show him a thing or two when it comes to writing for everyone and not just to show off how good you can play. We all know what he can do and I think that album just showed why he is a good songwriter but not a great composer.

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

I can assure you that if I were to write such a piece, it would be doubtful that there would be any guitar at all in it. Jason and I argued about this point quite a bit, but I believe that the sound of the electric guitar doesn't blend nicely (to my ear) with acoustic classical instruments. Kind of like mixing peanut butter and tomato sauce. When I played with an orchestra it was a big thrill for sure, but someday I will likely write a violin or piano based theme.
