QUESTION: |
Hey Marty, Maybe this question would be hard to answer, because you are quite possible the best guitarist/musician in the world. Anway, do you like playing with people who are better than you or worse than you. If you don't like the terms better and worse, do you like to play with people who play faster, understand more theory, w/e. Also, what do you think helps to find inspiration/creativity. |

MARTY'S ANSWER: |
First off, it's best to try not to judge players by whether they are 'better' or 'worse' than you. Judge them by whether they play anything you like or not. That said, for the sake of learning, it's like tennis, I would much rather play with someone that is gonna challenge me than someone whose ass I'm gonna kick every single time. Also, {play faster, understand more theory} quite often means less interesting music. Judge players by the sound that comes out of their instrument and whether you like that or not. |
