  Title : Guitar PLaying Methods

  QUESTION:

First, I have to say that I absolutely love your playing style. I can't listen to any music without comparing it to yours. I can't beleive how many different licks and styles of solos and improvs you do. I went to a guitar tech workshop you did a few years ago, and I am amazed at your playing.

My question is: what methods do you use for developing new techniques and styles of guitar solos, and how have they affected your general playing style over the years. I know my style gradually changes, but I listen to your music (Megadeth, your solo albums, Cacaphony, etc.), and it seems as though it is a different person playing on each album, because your approach is soo different on each one. Most artists have a general style, and you can always know exactly who is playing, because all their licks sound the same, but it seems as though your style and approach is always evolving.

Your Fan,
Kevin

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

The `trick` to evolving is to constantly be truly interested in seeking out and finding new interesting music that you like and enjoying it. A lot of guys say, `Oh, rock was so much better x number of years ago, new stuff sucks, there`s no good music anymore, etc.` That is literally the equivalent to some old guy saying, `These kids today! When I was your age, blah blah, blah...` Music is better than ever and keeps getting more interesting, innovative and fun. Find it!!
