  Title : Sitting and Standing

  QUESTION:

Marty,

I picked up the guitar 4 years ago and play every night in my bedroom. A few guys at work have a cover band and needed a new guitarist and asked me to join them. So I went out and got a cheap little nylon strap figureing I'd need it to play gigs with them but I discovered after only playing sitting down for 4 years, I can play at all standing up.

It seems like my headstock keeps falling toward the floor and I have to support the neck with the palm of my playing hand which ruins my dexterity. Also, my KE-1 seems to lean away from me when I stand so I cant see the fretboard:(

Have you ever had these problems playing a Kelly all those years? Do you practice sitting down or do you always stand to simulate being on stage? Please give me some advice.

Thank you Marty.

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

My advice is, get a good strap. Planet Waves makes great straps. Also, the Kelley is an oddly balanced and heavy guitar. A lighter guitar may help you out. The more you play with the band, the more your problem will go away. Good luck.
