  Title : Teaching music

  QUESTION:

Hi Marty; I've started to teach guitar about a month ago and I've found that regardless of the technique my students have to learn to appreciate music first and I haven't been able to find an effective way to teach them that, the thing is that they are anxious to play Vai's excersices rather than dig into music's feel first. Do you have any tip to help me with this? I mean, you're the most inspired musician I have heard.

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

Here's a tip- People who will eventually wind up being musicians will find their way to the neccesary info, be it from you or elsewhere. It's your responsibilty to feed yourself, so give them what they want to keep their business. It's their responsibility to figure out how to be a musician. You can't teach that.
