Title : Question about Megadeth solos...

  QUESTION:

Hey Marty,
Why did you tone down your "exotic" side so much on CW and Risk, especially Risk? Both are amazing albums and have great Marty solos, but you always claim to be so bored with same-old pentatonic Jimi inspired licks, and your Music For Speeding has some of the most "out-there" work you've done. Just wondering because there's such a difference between solos for songs like "Lucretia" and "Go To Hell" and songs like "Disintegrators" and "Time". Still great solos, but it seems like the normal kind of interesting note-choices you make weren't there.

You are one of my all time favorites. Thanks for providing a goal for me to aspire to as a musician

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

Good Q. I think that then, as always, when soloing I try as hard as possible to do what's best for the song, rather than challenge myself as a gtr player. I just try to do what fits and feels right. I can play that 'exotic' stuff til the cows come home, but in reality you gotta know the right time and place to put the freaky stuff in.
