  Title : loudness versus overdrive

  QUESTION:

I use a Marshall 30DFX as a combo. I cannot go past volume 3 without causing a serious domestic - neighbourhood catastrophe. that amp is good [hehe] You have always placed loudness before distortion. Any pointers on how to play loud without waking up the world around me. There is very little space I have.

This is important! Try to do your playing or practicing with as little distortion or gain as you can get away with, because if you 'over-fuzz' your tone you will never really know if you are playing tight or not. It's hard, and sometimes uninspiring, but if you get used to it at a low level, when you walk into a proper rehearsal room where you can blast your rig, look out! You will likely play more confidently than someone who piles on the distortion when they practice.
