  Title : Loss of desire to play

  QUESTION:

Hey Marty,

I don't know how it happened, but just over the last few months I've noticed that I've lost my desire to play guitar. I can't figure out why. Part of it could be my grueling work schedule, part of it could be that I don't have a lot of gigs/sessions going on (haven't had many for over a year), and maybe I don't feel I have anything to prove now. In my city I'm one of the most talented guitarists, and though I don't get a lot of gigs, I could easily be getting them. The point is that I don't have the desire to play anymore, and it's gotten to the point that I've seriously thought of selling all my music gear. Do you have any ideas for rekindling my love for music? Deep down inside I know that music is what I'm meant to do with my life, I just don't feel the desire right now. I sit at my guitar, and after ten minutes I don't want to play anymore. If you can share anything that might be of help, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

God bless, Peace

You say: {In my city I'm one of the most talented guitarists, and though I don't get a lot of gigs, I could easily be getting them. }

If getting gigs is so easy, why not go out and get some. If you don't enjoy playing then, maybe it's time to take up another hobby. If you yourself have no desire to play, no one else is gonna beg you to keep playing. Be honest with yourself, maybe there are other things you would rather do.
