Hey Marty, as I've said in my other posts...You are a kick ass musician! You've also been a major influence in my own playing, thanks! I just have some questions, maybe you could clear 'em up...
1. I've read in interviews and other FAQ posts that you think Jacksons are great metal guitars and you just wanted something more versatile. My question is, what didn't the jacksons have that you wanted? I mean, if they are great for playing speed metal, it seems like they must be nice feeling guitars. And if you use the same JB pickups, the tone can't be all that different. So what did they lack?
2. Why did you (and Dave) go for Kahler non-trem bridges on your early custom models? And why don't you use them now?
I also just wanted to say, that although I'd LOVE to hear you on the new megadeth album...I'm really disapointed in the fans that seem to have turned on you. Megadeth or not, you are my guitar god. Peace. |

1. Jacksons have a cold, hard but consistent tone, which makes it perfect for intricate leads and tight rhythms. Absolutely the best for that. But to make huge fat chords and deep sustaining solos with a Jackson is a chore. Gorgeous clean tone is not a feature associated with a Jackson (but they are improving that big time, I hear).
2. Neither of us used a trem. Somewhere along the line my tech figured out that the less hardware you have around the bridge you have the better your tuning and tone is, so that's why I don't use them now. Who knew?
