I am working out modes(i don't know the names) for japanese scales,all different scales that i picked up by ear,is this the way to soloing over progressions,or am i wrong??

There is no 'wrong' way to approach music. Don't worry about names. You can't 'hear' names. You just have to constantly keep playing and using your ears until things start to sound the way you like them. It takes time, so good luck.
