Title : What does it take to be discovered?

  QUESTION:

I am a guitar enthuiast who truly appreciates great guitarists. I find it to be incredibly moving when I see a true virtuoso perform. My favorite 3 axemen are you, Alex Skolnick and Mike Moore. But only 2 of my favorite 3 are known. Mike Moore is a local guy from LA who's stage performance is like nothing you've ever seen. He thrashes and shreds from his opening note till the last riff like a tornado. People in the audience's jaws' drop when they see him play, and that's a tough reaction to get from an LA crowd. He is the most intensly passionate player I've ever seen live. Nobody even comes close and I've seen most of the great ones. Anyone who sees him agrees that he is completely unique and brilliant. But he's still playing in small clubs around LA in an Ozzy tribute and a small origional project, apparantly unappreciated and unknown to the guitar fans of the world.

What does it take for one of the "great ones" to be discovered. The answer can't be "persistance" because this guy has been doing the LA clubs for years. He should be on the cover of every guitar magizine there is. What does it take? Its so depressing to see so many untalented kids making millions on MTV as a true guitar hero remains unknown in the LA club scene.

P.S. I am not putting out a plug for Mike Moore, I don't even know him. I am just a serious guitar fan.

P.P.S. Your soloing in "Holy Wars" is fabulous. I get fired up every time I hear it. Thanks.

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

Great question!!!! We all know guys like this, mind boggling players that we believe should be household names. What does it take? The ability to create something that many people will choose over something else to spend their money on. This is a tall order, and it has little to do with PLAYING music, and more to do with CREATING music. Chops have little to do with it. Is this player offering something with his music that is not available by another artist? Anyway, after your buildup, I'd love to hear him play! Best of luck.
