Transition to frontman? |

QUESTION: |
|
|
Dear Marty,
After being a member of a band, to now
being the 'frontman' of your own band do you take on any frontman duties?
I know it is an instrumental band, but do
you do much talking between songs etc or prefer to keep quiet and just play? Crowd banter appealing, or just getting in the
way?
Thankies in advance and looking forward greatly to the London date,
Simon.

MARTY'S ANSWER: |
|
|
On the short solo
tour of the US I did, I reluctantly took on minimal frontman duties such as talking between songs, etc. As a rock fan, I find
nothing lamer than a 'guitarist-frontman' unless the guitarist is also the lead singer. But I guess in an instrumental context
someone has to do the talking and it was me in this case. That said, it was kinda fun cracking jokes and getting a great response
from the crowd. It was still unnatural and I don't think I wanna make a career of it. The live gigs were a blast, and there is
talk of a possible US or Europe tour in the works, but I can't make any promises about that right now. |
