Hey
Marty!
1- I think the solo in Lucretia is one of the most interestingly-sounding ones you've ever played (mysterious,
yet melodic and passionnate - my favourite!). You've already mentionned in your story behind the song page that the solo wasn't
especially worked out... I'm curious to hear about the thought process that went through your mind when you recorded it... Did you
improvise it as you went, following the progression, did it take a few takes to get it to sound like you wanted? And what did the
other Megadeth members think about it?
Thanks for your time Marty, and keep on rocking!

In
Lucretia, I basically took the rhythm riffs and broke them down into an easy to understand chord progression. Then I soloed over
the chords as if the original riff did not exist. That made it simpler. What made it more complex sounding was the fact that I
followed many of the chords with note choices that related to the chord I was playing over, but not to the previous or next chord.
One chord at a time. I'm not a jazz player, but if you have a jazz player analyze that solo for you, I'm sure he can explain it
very well, as the thought process was probably a page one jazz thought process. Thanks! |
