Hey marty, just id ask your opinion on Jimi as a guitar player since most people either think he is among the best or completely overrated.

I personally think he is among the best. He is of course no where near the most skilful, I believe his amazing imagination was what made him great (and his cool way of blurring the line between playing chords and playing lead). I think many people dont see this and say he is very overrated

No-one has captured my imagination the way he does when I hear his live stuff...

So anyway whats your oppinion on him??

PS Pleeeeeaaaase come to England, all this talk of US tour is making me very jealous!

Sorry, but I'd have to put him in the completely overrated category. I think he got famous in large part for the garbage that he did, smashing gear, setting guitars on fire, playing long indulgent squealing out of tune guitar solos while on hallucinogenic drugs, playing with his teeth, etc. While those do create an impression, and obviously influenced a great number of world class musicians to become musicians, I was always most impressed by his gorgeous and very original way of playing clean chordal passages. Just beautiful. I was just never a fan of that druggy stuff.
