  Title : get spontaneous

  QUESTION:

Hi Marty! I'm from Italy.
You always say that you never thing about exotic scales or japanese pentatonics when you are writing your solos. You say that you catch that cool notes only by your instinct. What material I have to study to become as spontaneus as you are? I've learn a lot of substitutions for the major phrygian mode, a lot of "strange pentatonics" based on the 21 modes, but I always have to write down every single note of my solos; i can't get more spontaneous like you are. Please, give me some advice.
Bye.

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

You already know more technical terminology than I do. Now forget about all of that stuff and LISTEN to the MUSIC that is coming out of your fingers. Mess it up as you go. Mistakes are the best 'spontaneous ideas'.
