  QUESTION:

Hey man... Waaaay back I saw you guys in London & having bought a ltd ed CD for the pass, was forutnate enough to be in 1st 200 fans in the venue & so got to meet the MegaBand post-gig.
Referring to an article in Metal Hammer published around the same time I asked Mr Mustaine why it was that you guys were mostly playin only new material & he told me that the sound comes over better in venues like this. I pointed out Slayer & Pantera had played there & sounded just fine, suggesting this was a sell-out attitude denying heavy music its airing! All I got after that was "Yeah well, we kinda play what we want".
Would you stick by this assertion, or would you agree that sure the heavier tunes may be more distorted but should also be aired for that TOTAL gig experience, as 'Rust ...' is one of the best CD's released in the 90's.
Cheers & thanks for some awesome records & gigs.
Stoo

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

Don't you think a band should be able to say 'We play what we want'? Isn't that the attitude that attracts most people to the band in the first place? Also, what is 'heavier'? 'Heavier' is in the eye (or ear) of the beholder. Even within the band we couldn't agree on what 'heavy' was, so how could we possibly address each and every fan's definition of it? That said, I remember that tour of the UK and I remember it kicking MAJOR ass!! Thanks for being there.
