Title : battle of the bands attitude

  QUESTION:

I have been in a few bands and when it comes to small things like BATTLE OF THE BANDS, everyone in my band decides to hate everyone else but I dont have that attitude. I admire watching other bands, I learn things from others and they learn things from me. It is all about the love of music. True, it is a contest, but it isn't like a war. So when I am with a group and their true colors of hating other people come out, it gives me a reality check to see if I will actually go anywhere with them when they are so negative.
I never heard you say "So&So sucks" (even tho you may think it, you dont verbalize it. I think that is normal for people to think it) You hung out and taught Al your licks and worked with him on all the songs and then left. Most people would have said FUCK IT and been on their way. So thank you Marty. Your attitude influence on me is carrying over to other musicians in my area. I dont know where I would be if it wasnt for you and Barry Sanders (former tailback of Detroit Lions. I say he was the Marty Friedman of football)

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

Listen Chris, it really has nothing to do with music. It's about how do you want to be perceived as a person. Do you want to be known as someone who tries to make up for his lack of ability by putting others down? In any line of work you can find plenty of people like this and usually they are somewhere around the bottom of the totem pole. And hot chicks rarely find them attractive. All the best.
