  Title : Giving up guitar

  QUESTION:

I've tried everything. I've sat for hours with a metronome playing your licks thousands of times, spent months and years slowing down your music and analysing it practicing each and every vibrato cycle on your bends. It's just not happening, I can't get that sound. Is it just a matter of playing more/for longer or am I doing this wrong? I've been playing for ten years and can't even get the first vibrato on Dragon Mistress right. I feel like giving up because it feels like no matter how hard I try I'll forever be stuck at this plateau. I feel like I'll never be able to play fast or as expressive as what's on a Cacophony record or Dragon's Kiss. Inferno is in a whole new dimension. Help.

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

It`s literally impossible to play like me, no matter how hard you practice or work at it. That`s not a boasting comment, that`s just because I play from my gut and not from common techniques, I play from my life experiences, and there is no way another person can have the same life experiences as another person. So-I would say don`t give up--just make different musical goals, like just trying to make music that you enjoy, rather than trying to copy me. I am flattered though. Best of luck!
