Hi, Marty. First off i would like to say how much of a fan i am of your playing. I am sure you get that a lot for obvious reasons but you really have been a true inspiration to my playing and even in my attitude towards playing.
I am a guitarist for a living, I teach guitar at a local music school, I do session work (these are my bread winners) But i also play in a band that is starting to do quite well (but not earning much money right now)
So this leads to my question, How did you find keeping relationships (girlfriends) going when recording and on the road but yet staying focused on the job? Do you have any tips from when you where around my age? (i am in my 20s) as you have the gift of hindsight now.
It can be problematic because; I find when my girl is upset about something and you are trying to record it can mess with your focus which i know is un-professional but its hard. Also convincing your girl when on the road that your not cheating can be hard, even though i know for sure that i never would cheat, she suspects alot.
Any advice from when you have been in similar situations?
Thanks for your time Marty, hope this question is not too personal.

Nice Q. If your girl gets in the way of your musical goals, you need to decide which is more important to you. Is she an asset to your dreams or a liability? Pussy is everywhere, but a girl that is worth actually committing to should enable you to do better in your career choice, and music is one of the toughest. 20`s is already old in the music biz. If you are truly, truly serious, I think you know the answers to your questions already...Best of luck. |
