Hiowdy, Marty!
I've been watching some videos of classic 60's and 70's bands and found out these bands would dissolve whenever a member would try to dominate the others in any manner, may it be ideology, equipment, artistic style or even clothes. I plan to form a group very soon and I don't want to dominate anyone nor be dominated. Nevertheless, someone has to say the verb in the band; there must be a leader. Otherwise it might never take off for lacking artistic and executive organization. When it comes to bands, you're no newbie at all. Plus, you've been in countless groups. I would like to ask you about the difference between leadership and domination. What are the boundaries between them? I fear there is a thin line there, but I'm not sure.
With much appreciation,

Great question, but the answer is vague. Each case is different. The ultimate scenario is 4 or 5 friends who enjoy making music together, play their asses off, respect each other and allow each one to have leadership is situations in which that person is suited. My advice is don`t think much about it, just make the best music you can, and use common sense for the rest. Good luck. |
