  Title : Art Vs. Entertainment

  QUESTION:

Dear Marty, I am a musician and lately I have been angry. Music is labeled as entertainment instead of art. It is almost as I was a clown getting a nice cream pie on my face every night! Can't people perceive art has so much more to tell than a mere entertainment act? I take nothing home for the next day after watching a magician get a rabbit out of the hat. But, after a concert... whoa! Do I get my thoughts and emotions flowing and flowing! I know you are in the music area of activity since a long, long time and have probably heard a lot of things. So, here's my question: do you believe music is art or entertainment? Thank you. PS: I apologize for the anger. : /

  MARTY'S ANSWER:

People pay to be entertained, so music is certainly entertainment. Why waste your energy being angry? If you are making your music that you love and is your art, who cares how others interpret it?
