QUESTION: |
|
|
Hello, Marty!
Your style is very easy to identify for you got some edge with your warped melodies and beautifully dissonant notes! Even if I play well the licks, phrases, riffs and so on, I don't seem to have an edge of my own... I mean, nothing that really stands out as your style. The question is: do you believe everyone has an edge that can be used in music - or even arts in general - or is it better for some of us to go study biology?
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Greg |

MARTY'S ANSWER: |

What I do is play what I love and nothing else, so what is left winds up being my "edge" as you say. Make an effort to be sure you play what you enjoy, and not what you think may impress others. Then, eventually, your own "edge" will come out. But of course, not everyone is cut out for music. Even then, everyone can enjoy playing. Don`t compare yourself to others, just do your own thing. |
